James F. Baker, 87, of North Kingstown, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Mr. Baker was born in North Kingstown to the late James and Ellen Giblin Baker. He was a graduate of North Kingstown High School. At 18, Mr. Baker joined the United States Navy. He received military honors for valor while serving with the Amphibious Force in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Baker maintained an active affiliation with his LCI shipmates throughout his lifetime. Mr. Baker also served during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he began a forty-year career with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation as a traffic maintenance supervisor. At the same time, he served as a Special Officer for the North Kingstown Police Department and a car salesman for Weber Chevrolet of Coventry.
