Biography
PERRAULT/ PERREAULT/ PERREAU - diminutive of Pierre, name popularized by the apostle Pierre. From the Latin 'petrus', form of 'petra' which means 'stone, rock'. This name, particularly present in Maine-et-Loire and Pas-de-Calais. It is a diminutive of the first name Pierre. Its variants are the names Perreault, Perrot and Perrotte.
Pierre Perreault was born around 1654. Of unknown origin and filiation, he married Geneviève Duclos, daughter of François and Geneviève Cerisier, around 1685. From this union were born 12 children. He settled first in Cap-Santé, then in Batiscan, as a miller. In 1681, he was a servant with the sieur René Robineau, in the barony of Portneuf. In October 1735, he was reputed to be a master flour maker in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, where he was buried on May 21, 1741.
