Julien  MERCIER

Biography
MERCIER - from the old French 'mercier' which means 'peddler, itinerant merchant, commercial traveler who sells everywhere'. Julien Mercier was baptized in St-Aubin de Tourouvre (Perche) on February 27, 1621. Son of François and Roberte Cornilleau, he married on January 18, 1654 in Quebec with Marie Poulin baptized in Trois-Rivières in 1641, daughter of Claude and Jeanne Mercier. From their union were born 10 children. He arrived in the country in 1647, as an indentured servant for 3 years. On July 22, 1649 he was released from his obligations; he obtained a concession at Ste-Anne du Petit Cap in 1649. In 1667 he declared 5 horned animals and 16 arpents of cultivation. In 1670 he was the first warden of Ste Anne, the church of which he was a benefactor. He died there on October 18, 1678 and was buried there.
