Biography
CARRIER - Nickname for a carrier (one who makes chariots and carts) in the south of France or a worker (stone breaker) in a quarry in other regions. CARIER, CHERRIER - Formerly, in Normandy, one said interchangeably carier, cherrier, querier, but carier is the oldest form.

Jean Carrier was born on January 24, 1638 in Saint-Georges d'Oléron, Charente- Maritime, in France. Son of Jean Carrier and Jeanne Dodier (Dodin), he married Barbe Halay-Halle (24), daughter of Jean-Baptiste Halay-Halle and Mathurine Valet, on November 4, 1670 in Quebec. From their union were born 4 children. He arrived in the country before 1661 and settled in the seigneury of Lauzon. In 1681, he owns a gun, five cattle and 15 acres of land. His wife died and was buried on June 18, 1696. The precise date of his death is not known but he was still living in November 1715.
