Biography
BOUCHER DE NIVERVILLE, JEAN-BAPTISTE, officier dans les troupes de la Marine, seigneur, né à Boucherville (Québec) le 6 décembre 1673, fils de Pierre Boucher* et de Jeanne Crevier, décédé à Boucherville en 1748.
Jean-Baptiste Boucher de Niverville fut initié très jeune à la carrière militaire. Il fit d’abord partie de la milice puis il s’engagea dans les troupes de la Marine. Nommé enseigne vers 1695, il participa, semble-t-il, au cours des années 1690 et 1696, aux expéditions de Frontenac [Buade*] contre les Anglais et les Iroquois. Dans une lettre adressée au ministre de la Marine, Pontchartrain, le 12 novembre 1707, le gouverneur Vaudreuil [Rigaud*] et l’intendant Jacques Raudot* annonçaient au ministre qu’ils lui envoyaient « un plein sac d’échantillons de minéraux trouvés au lac Champlain par les sieurs de Niverville, Graveline et Destailly, ainsy qu’une carte du lac Champlain ».
