Sadly, I never got to know him very well because I was placed in foster care at the age of 6, due to maternal abuse. I remember my father waking my brother up at 5 AM just so he could spend time with my brother and I. He would make breakfast for the three of us and then head out into the forests, for weeks at a time, living the life of a lumberjack in the late 1950’s. It couldn’t have been an easy life. And at an early age—in his early 30’s, he was disabled when a tree fell on him.
