Ruth was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 17, 1919 to John Thomas O'Brien and Nina Violet Springborn. She graduated from North Olmsted High School in 1937.

In March of 1945 Ruth met Wilbur Wallace Moore in Cleveland while he was learning to be a diesel mechanic while in the Navy. They married on May 12, 1946, in Quartzite, AZ.

In 1951, their family of 5 children moved from Cleveland to sunny southern California. They had 1 additonal child in 1954, a daughter.

In 1964 they moved to Nevada City, California. In 1966 they moved to Redding, California.

Ruth was supervisor for Biotronics, Inc. in Redding. In later years she worked with special needs children as a care provider. She loved children and babies in particular. She also loved animals. She was the best cook. She loved going on camping and rock hunting trips.

Some of her husband Wilbur's ashes are buried with her. It was his wishes that the rest be disbursed at Mt Lassen, their favorite camping place.

She died just 2 weeks after her husband and hours after what would have been their 52nd weddign anniversary.

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.
