Ruby Agenes Lessard was born into farm life on the family farm in Thessalon, Algoma County, Ontario, Canada. She resided near the tiny township known as Iron Bridge.
Ruby's closest sister, Mary, lived in Sault Ste-Marie, and Ruby would go visit her and her husband Norm almost every summer.
Sadly, Ruby's biological father, Georges, died at a young age when she was just an infant; thus, Ruby never got to know her father like her older siblings did.
Ruby's mother, Stuart, remarried after her first husband, Georges died. With a farm that needed daily attending and multiple children of young ages to care for, it was a difficult challenge for her mother to juggle all of the tasks, chores, finances, and childrearing on her own.
