Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Doris (Lippe) Cournoyer Obituary

Doris Lippe Cournoyer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family days after her 85th birthday on December 16, 2025. Doris was born on 12/ 12/ 1940 to Lionel and Germaine Lippe in Southbridge, MA. She was a proud graduate of Notre Dame High School in Southbridge, Class of 1959, and later attended the New England School of Accounting, which would lay the foundation for her career as a bookkeeper.

In 1962, Doris married her childhood sweetheart, Paul Cournoyer, whom she had met in the 6th grade. Together, they built a life full of love and devotion in Turners Falls, MA, where they raised a family and created lasting memories. Doris was a dedicated mother and grandmother to their four children and their kids, Deb & Tim Rosa and their kids, Ashley, Brittany, Cameron, and Kylee of Ellington CT, Marc & Fran Cournoyer and their kids Sarah and Daniel of Holden MA, Robin & Peter Moore and
