It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

Obituary
Worcester/ Webster....Robert P. Moore, 59, died Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Harrington Memorial Hospital Southbridge. He is survived by a daughter Sara-Beth Hart and her husband Chad of Woodstock, CT, his father Robert W. Moore of Webster, 3 brothers Garrett Moore and his wife Bonnie of Clifton, VA, James Moore and his wife Mary of Douglas, MA, Jonathan Moore of Southbridge, and 2 sisters Melissa Morneau of Southbridge, and Kristina Fleming of Southbridge, 2 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was born in Webster, son the late Mary A. (Johnson) Moore and lived in Webster and Worcester. He graduated in 1970 from Bartlett High School in Webster, and UMass/ Dartmouth. He was employed at Christopher Heights in Worcester. He enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, and was an accomplished cook, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.

The funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Saint Louis Church Lake Street Webster at 10AM. Burial will be private. There
