Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Dean Henry Detton Jr. October 23, 1931 April 29, 2015 In loving memory of Dean Henry Detton Jr, born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 23, 1931 to parents Dean Henry Detton, Sr. and Maline Pessetto Detton. Dean Henry Detton, Jr. died peacefully with his family at his side on April 29, 2015 due to complications after a medical procedure.Dean graduated from Hayward High School in 1949 then moved on to study Business Administration at San Jose State University. After three years at San Jose State, Dean decided to join the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He served his country for 4 years as an Air Traffic Controller, leaving the Air Force with an honorable discharge. Much later in life he completed his Bachelor's Degree at California State University at Hayward.Dean met his first wife Patricia Hinton Detton when he was 12 years old.
