1935 - August 14 – United States President Franklin Roosevelt signs the Social Security Act into law 1940 - April - 1st electron microscope demonstrated (RCA), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Fred is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; two brothers, Martin and Robert and daughters, Cindy, Jackie, Erica and Jennifer and nine grandchildren. Fred was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Culver Military Academy, Yale University, and Cal-tech, earning a Master's degree in Geology. At Culver, Mr. Tahse was the senior captain/ regimental commander of his class.
Fred and Carol raised their family in California where they lived for 49 years. In 2002, Fred and Carol moved to Green Valley where Fred passionately advocated for the preservation of the Coronado National Forrest. Fred became actively involved with the non-profit organization: Save the Scenic Santa Ritas. He also enjoyed getting together with friends to explore the hidden natural treasures of southwest Arizona.
