Biography

DUFOUR - nickname given to a baker, the tenant of the four banal (paying bread oven of the seigniory).

Claude-Jacques Dufour was baptized on September 3, 1686 in Serqueux, Haute-Marne-France. Son of Claude Dufour and Françoise Paillet-Paillette, he married Marie-Magdeleine Leroux-Rousse, daughter of Jean-Baptiste and Marie-Louise Chausse-Lemaine, on January 11, 1734 in Lachine. The couple have 9 children. Arrived in the country in 1731, we find this son of a winegrower in the seigneury of Soulanges, then in Ste-Geneviève. Little is known of his life. He died on June 5, 1750 and was buried the next day in Ville St-Laurent.
