The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Margaret Marie Theinert age 97, died Tuesday February 15, 2011 at Premier Rehab. under the care of Beloit Regional Hospice.

She was born September 13, 1913 to the late John and Anna (Frauchiger) Streich in Woodford, WI. Margaret graduated from Ridgeway High School in Ridgeway, WI and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She has been a Beloit resident since 1940. Margaret married Leo J. Theinert on October 26, 1940 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1964. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Eastern Star and the Beloit Federation of Women. Margaret was a tutor for the Stateline Literacy Council and a volunteer for the Beloit Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a former member and president of the North End Club. Margaret enjoyed reading, music, theatre productions and tending to her flower garden.

She is survived by her son,
