Deceased Name: Arthur Allen Guthrie

52, a lawyer who analyzed mortgages for Freddie Mac, the federally chartered corporation that provides funds to mortgage lenders, died at Washington Hospital Center Feb. 28 of injuries he suffered five days earlier in a fire at his home in Falls Church.

Mr. Guthrie was born in Washington and raised in Falls Church. He graduated from George C. Marshall High School and Duke University. He received a master's degree in English from Columbia University and his law degree from George Washington University.

He spent most of his career working for publishers of tax and legal information. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he worked for the American Association of Certified Public Accountants in New York. He joined Freddie Mac about a year ago.

Mr. Guthrie was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square, in Washington.

Survivors include his father, Lamar E. Guthrie of Falls Church.
