1962 - The Cuban Missile Crisis was a tense 13-day standoff in October 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S. coast. The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. Lexington - Terry Mason McClain, 71, husband of Kathy McClain died on Tues. Oct. 19, 2021 in Lexington, KY. He was born in Louisville, KY on Oct. 06, 1950 to Barbara McClain and the late Ervin McClain. Other than his wife Kathy and mother Barbara he is survived by his two daughters, Samantha Hatton and Denise McClain; three grandchildren, John Hatton, Mason Hatton and Makynzie Vickery; two brothers, Rick McClain, and Kevin McClain. He is preceded in death by his father Ervin McClain and brother, Roger McClain. A gathering of family and friends will be 4pm-6pm Thurs. Oct. 28, 2021 at Clark Legacy Center - Brannon Rd. clarklegacycenter.com
