Did You Know? Acadia - Did you know?  In Acadia, Ash Wednesday (Mercredi des Cendres) ushered in forty days of penitence, as prescribed by the Church. Fasting, for those between the ages of twenty-one and sixty, was very severe, permitting no more than two ounces of bread in the morning, a good meal at noon and a light snack at night. Meat was prohibited, at first every day of the week, and later only Wednesdays and Fridays.

1760 to 1763, it was simply Canada
1763 to 1791 - Province of Quebec
1791 to 1867 - Lower Canada
1867 to present - Quebec, Canada.

Did You Know? Quebec - Did you know? In the mid 1600s, pro-birth measures were put in place to encourage population growth in New France. Allowances were granted to familes with ten or more children. Bonuses were provided to men who married before age 20 and to women who married before age 16. Free education was promised to the 26th child! (Yes, the 26th child.)
