NOTE THAT IN EARLY NEW FRANCE IT WAS NOT UNHEARD OF FOR GIRLS TO MARRY VERY YOUNG (IN ORDER TO BE CARED FOR IN EXCHANGE FOR THEIR LABOR) AND NOT CONSUMATE THE MARRIAGE UNTIL OF AGE. IN THIS CASE, MARGUERITE SEEMS TO HAVE "OPTED OUT" OF THE MARRIAGE, AS IT WAS ANNULLED FOR "NON-CONSUMMATION".
