PREFACE: THERE IS GREAT DISAGREEMENT AMONGST GENEALOGISTS AND DESCENDENTS ON THE PARENTAGE OF MARIE ANNE (ANNETJE) LOUISE AND ON THE IDENTIFICATION OF HER AS THE 'SEMI-BLACK' MOTHER, NAMED ONLY AS ANNA, AT THE BAPTISM OF AN ILLEGITIMATE CHILD OF SHE AND 'MOSES DE PUIS', BAPTIZED IN THE REFORMED DUTCH CHURCH OF ALBANY ON 27 DEC 1696. THE FOLLOWING IS ONE INTERPRETATION, BUT CERTAINLY NOT THE ONLY INTERPRETATION, THAT CAN BE DRAWN FROM THE MEAGER DATA DISCOVERED ABOUT THIS INDIVIDUAL.
