Toussaint HUNAULT (HUNEAULT) dit DESCHAMPS
Biography
Pioneer Toussaint Hunault passed away on September 13th, 1690, at Montréal—killed by sword in an altercation with Gabriel Dumont, a "lieutenant in a company of the detachment of the Navy."
Toussaint had arrived in New France as part of La Grande Recrue of 1653. His future bride Marie Lorgueil was part of the contingent. They married in Montréal a year after their arrival (unlike many younger members of the recruitment who had to wait five years until their contracts were completed.)
The circumstances of Toussaint's killing (murder?) are not known. His assailant fled and was never heard from again. And this was not the only violent episode in the family. Daughter Thérèse, married with seven children, was killed "cruelly ... by the Iroquois at Lachenaie" the year before.
Marie and Toussaint have a great number of notable descendants: Angelina Jolie, Ricky Gervais, Ryan Gosling, Madonna, Christopher Meloni, Shemar Moore, Shania Twain ...
