Funeral Attended on Wednesday Afternoon by a Number of Friends and Relatives from a Distance--His Son Grandson are also Veterans

James R. Pike died at his home in Mill street Monday morning at 8:45 o'clock, after a long illness with stomach trouble. Mr. Pike was born in Erie county, Pa., October 14, 1840, the eldest of ten children of Levi and Olive Potter Pike. He served in Co. B, 60th Regiment of N.Y. Vet. Vol., and received his honorable discharge with his company at the close of the war, after which he came to East Randolph where he married Miss Cornelia Helms on March 20, 1868. Four children were born of this union, three of whom, with the wife survive; one daughter, Mrs. Chauncey Helms of Ridgeway, Pa.; Cleveland Pike, Caledonia and Lee Pike, Olean. Also three grandsons, Francis E. Pike of Caledonia, N.Y.; Percy Helms, Clearfield, Pa.; and Milford Helms, Ridgeway, Pa. Three sisters, Mrs. Mary Davenport and Mrs. Olive Helms, East Randolph; Mrs. D.M. Harrington, Mayville; and three brothers, Everette Pike, Mayville; Frank Pike, Corry, Pa.; and Fred Pike, Randolph.

The funeral was held from the M.E. church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. B.H. Clare officiating. Rev. Mr. Clare gave a very comforting serman, taking as his text, "If a man dies, shall he live again." Mrs. H.J. Morton of Randolph sang.

Those from far away in attendance were: Frank Pike, Corry, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Mead and daughter Helen, Spring Creek, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Pike and son Francis E. Pike, Caledonia; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pike, Olean; Mrs. Chauncey Helms, Ridgeway and Mr. and Mrs. John Helms of Buffalo. Interment was in East Randolph cemetery.

Mr. Pike was a veteran of the Civil war, his son Cleveland Pike, a veteran of the Spanish American war and his grandson, Francis E. Pike, a veteran of the World war, having recently returned from overseas.
