1904 - VERMONT FUGITIVES CAPTURED. Tragic Ending of Family Feud - Alleged Murder of South Bloomfield Road-House Keeper.

News
A posse of special offers and citizens from both sides of th eline dividing Vermont and New Hampshire captured Reuben and Edward Bronson, the brothers who were wanted for the alleged murder of Charles Lyons, keeper of a road-house at South Bloomfield, Vt., late Thursday night. The men were captured early yessterday as they were emerging from the woods about two miles from the town. ALthough they were armed with rifles, their ammunition had been used up in the fight with Lyons, which resulted, it is said, from a family feud, and they offered no resistance.

The trouble between the Bronson and Lyons families has been of long standing and is said to have been accentuated at the last by intoxication. A lumber company Thursday began the distribution of $50,000 in wages earned by the men of that section during the winter, and money was spent freely at the road-houses. Thursday evening there was much noise, and many rows occurred. In the general disturbanes the Bronson-Lyons quarre developed into a battle with firearms and Charles Lyons was shot. Rifles, revolvers and a shotgun were used, the belligerenets occupying their respective houses. Charles Lyons stepped into the road while the firing was in progress and received a bullet in his brain. After the shooting both Bronson brothers fled into the woods. A large number of citizens searched all night for the fugitives. The town officials swore in a number of special officers and word was sent to Deputy Sheriff Stevens of Island Pond. Before the deputy arrived the special officers and citizens sighted the Bronsons coming out of the woods and captured them . Reuben Bronson is 30 years old, Edward is 35.
