Bloomfield, Vt., Sept. 21 - An explosion of tons of dynamite in the midst of a roaring fire, which swept away the barns, storehouses and office buildings of the Connecticut Valley Lumber Company and the local postoffice and grocery store tonight, was all that saved the town from being wiped out by flames.

The fire broke out in one of the barns of the lumber company and swept to an adjoining barn, thence to the office building, storehouse and granery. Three hundred horses in the barns were taken out with difficulty, but fifty head of swine, 200 tons of hay and serveral carloads of grain were burned.

In the storehouse many tons of pork, flour and other provisions purchased for the support of the lumbermen the coming winter were destroyed.
