"The following is my best information on Genevieve Hayot's last years, with the summer of 1731 at Ile-St-Ignace being my estimate of when and where she died.

As noted earlier, on Jan 24, 1730, per record filed by Notary Delafosse, Genevieve Ayot [Hayot], habitant, of Ile St-Ignace, widow of Jean Turcote, sold a portion of land at Ile-Ste-Ignace to Jean Ride of Longeuil. Thus Genevieve was then living there on that island with or near her son Gabriel fils and many other relatives.

No further details on Genevieve have been found, including where or when she died except it was after Jan 24, 1730 and apparently before Nov 4, 1732 when Notary Delafosse recorded a contract for her son Gabriel fils' remarriage.

Genevieve may have perished in a June-July 1731 epidemic on Ile-Ste-Ignace that appears to have taken 5 of her great grandchildren descended from daughter Louise (mid-June to mid-July) followed by 4 of her grandchildren from son Gabriel fils and on July 31st, Gabriel fils' wife Angelique.

Gabriel fils' re-marriage contract of 1732 contains no mention of an outstanding inheritance from the possessions of Genevieve. Though not definitive, that may indicate that her estate already had been settled. Furthermore, neither of Gabriel fils' parents are listed (as present, nonpresent or deceased) on his 1732 church marriage record, which would be unusual if either were still alive. In 1731, Genevieve would have been age 73. No record of her death or burial has been found.

It may be (a nice speculation, though there is no evidence), that upon Genevieve's death, Gabriel fils and his brother Pierre, who also lived on Ile-St-Ignace, traveled to the Tadoussac region (assuming their father was buried there) and buried her beside her 1st husband of 32 years. That place may have been near the Tadoussac Post or up the Saguenay River at the Chicoutimi Post. The mission at Chicoutimi often was not staffed with a priest and that may explain why neither Gabriel nor Genevieve's burials were recorded if either or both were buried there."
