Deceased Name: Mary O. Learned at 84, ex-Connecticut teacher

STAFFORD SPRINGS, Conn., - Mary (O'Halloran) Learned, 84, of South Yarmouth, Mass., a retired 28-year teacher at Stafford High School, died Thursday in a Harwich, Mass., nursing home.

She taught English and Latin and was chairman of the English Department at Stafford High School. Previously, she taught at George Washington High School in New York City.

She had served on the Stafford Springs Board of Education and the state Board of Education.

Born in Stafford Springs, she attended St. Edward School and Stafford High School. She was a 1926 graduate of St. Elizabeth College in Convent, N.J. She was a former communicant of St. Edward Church and a member of the Stafford Teachers Club. Her husband, Franklyn E. Learned, died in 1985. She leaves a son, Edward F. of Stafford Springs; and a daughter, Sara-Sally Small of South Yarmouth.

The funeral will be Wednesday morning at Introvigne Funeral Home Inc. and in St. Edward Church with burial in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Edward School Fund, 55 High St., Stafford Springs, 06076.
