SOUTHBRIDGE - Philip A. Renaud, 88, of 415 Charlton St., a retired supervisor, and a longtime church and civic leader, died yesterday in The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Memorial, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 64 years, Juliette M. (Guillet) Renaud; a daughter, Rachel T. Renaud; a brother, Omer Renaud; and a sister, Irene Gamache, all of Southbridge. He was born in Southbridge, son of Israel and M. Mederise (Leduc) Renaud. He graduated from Mary E. Wells High School in 1926, where he was president of his class, and attended Northeastern University in Boston.

Mr. Renaud was a supervisor in the planning and production control department of American Optical Co., where he worked for 48 years. He retired in 1971. Mr. Renaud was a Eucharistic minister of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, president of its Parish Council, and former president of its League of the Sacred Heart. He served on the parish bingo committee. He was a church soloist and director of its choir. He was a member of De Triana Council, Knights of Columbus, and its chancellor for 59 years.

Mr. Renaud served on the Southbridge School Planning Committee. He was a director of the Tri-Community United Fund. He was past president of the American Optical Quarter-Century Club and the Wellsworth Athletic Association. He was a vice president of Southbridge Community Concerts and past president of the Interfaith Choral Association. He was a charter member of SPEBSQSA, a group that promotes barbershop quartets, and a member of the Societe Jacques Cartier, L'Union St. Jean Baptiste.

The funeral will be held Tuesday from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 30 Charlton St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Restoration Fund, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Organ Restoration Fund, 40 Charlton St., Southbridge 01550; or Catholic Charities, Home Care Service Memorial Fund, 15 Ripley St., Worcester 01610.
