Peter Clark English
of Smithville Flats
Peter Clark English, age 83, died August 24, 2009 at Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton, New York after a long illness. He was born in Greene on June 24, 1926, son of the late William and Laura English. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Drachler English; his son, Peter and Julie English of Stowe, OH; his daughters, Susan Kaarlsen, San Antonio, TX, and Martha and Joe Pyles of Greene. Also surviving are grandchildren, Karen and Dino Cinelli, Shawn and Laura Kaarlsen, all of San Antonio, Kevin Kaarlsen, Chester, NY, Elizabeth and Jay Takacs, Suffern, NY, Cynthia and Jared Gorman, McDonough, NY, Kate and Sean Maloney, Seattle, WA, Jonathan English, Seoul, Korea, and Ketha and Daniel Earp, Corpus Christi, TX; as well as great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin Jr., Mollie, Mallorie, Gehryt, Noah, Aidan, Madison, Genevieve, Elijah and Gabriel. He is further survived by his brother, Paul and Sue English; and brother-in-law, Bill and Carol Drachler, all residing in Greene; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant son, Timothy William English; and his daughter, Carrie Lynne English; son-in-law, Clarke Kaarlsen; his brother, William "Budd" English; and his sisters, Dorothy English Cook and Phyllis English Schutz. A lifelong area resident, Peter served his country in the Army Air Corps during the end of World War II. Peter became a member of the Greene Fire Department in 1952 and served in many capacities until 1976. During that time he was also a member of the Greene Emergency Squad. Peter was a 50-year plus member of the Royal Arch Masons in Greene, and also served in many other roles at different levels in that organization.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Root Funeral Home with Rev. Liz Groskoph officiating. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Friends of the family may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. A Masonic Service conducted by Eastern Light Lodge #126 will be held Sunday at 4:45 p.m. Greene Fire Department will conduct a service Sunday at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greene Emergency Squad, 6 N. Canal Street, Greene, NY 13778; or to Alzheimer's Association , c/ o Elizabeth Church Manor, 863 Front Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
