Marabelle DOWLER
Obituary

Marabelle "Merry" D. Blessing passed away peacefully at her home on November 18, 2018 . She was 90 years old.

Merry was born on January 11, 1928 in Crosby, MN to Rev. James E. Dowler and Bernice (Chaffee). She grew up in Northern Minnesota, graduating from Memorial High School in Ely, MN in 1946. She received her BA in Sociology from the University of Minnesota in Duluth in 1951.

Merry served in the United States Navy for five years before being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. On June 21, 1957 she married Donald A. Blessing. After several moves over many years, their family eventually settled in Longmont, CO in 1978.

Merry was a vocational counselor in California before starting her family. Once her children were grown, she resumed a career with Boulder County in the Private Industry Partnership Workforce; she retired in 1988.

She was a member at the First United Methodist Church. Merry enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and doing crossword puzzles. In her earlier years she enjoyed going to the beach, attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and garage "sailing". She very much enjoyed listening to her nephew's stories of Alaskan adventure and she enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories with her family and her long-time friends.

She will be dearly missed by her loved ones who agree that they have never known a more kind, loving, generous and truly good person.

Merry was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents, a brother Paul Dowler and two sisters Dorothy Theno and Beatrice Thomson.

She is survived by her children Scott A. (Ann) Blessing and Terry B. (Steve) Brookins; her brother Richard Dowler; her grandchildren Shay (Erin) Blessing, Troy (Audrey) Blessing, Kelsey Blessing, Benjamin Brookins and Sarah Brookins; her great-grandchildren Brooks Blessing, Harrison Blessing and Myles Blessing; and several nieces and nephews.

No services will be held at Merry's request. Cremation is entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made to any Veteran's group or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
