Surprise Party Given by Members of Family

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Slade were given a surprise party Saturday at their home by members of their family in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

The party was arranged by their daughter, Mrs. Douglas Scott of Adams, assisted by their daughters-in-law, Mrs. Clayton J. Slade, Mrs. C. Stafford Slade, Mrs. J. William Slade and Mrs. Edson Slade. Mrs. Clayton J. Slade made the anniversary cake. The elder Slades were presented with many gifts, including a purse of money.

Mr. Slade and the former Miss Jessie M. Feige of North Adams were married Oct. 15, 1899, and lived in North Adams until 1910 when they moved to Stamford. For 13 years before that Mr. Slade was proprietor of the seven-chair barber shop in the Wellington hotel. When they moved to Stamford, they bought the Paradise hotel farm and since then, they have bought, improved and sold several properties in Stamford.

They have two daughters, Mrs. Harvey E Garrison of Schenectady, N.Y., and Mrs. Scott of Adams, and four sons, Clayton J. and C. Stafford of North Adams and J. William and Edson of Stamford. Also present at the celebration where Mrs. Slade's brothers and sisters and their families, George C. Feige of Nashua, N.H., Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Feige and son, Howard, of Shelburne Falls, Mass., and Mrs. A. M. Gutterson of New York city and Wilton, N.H.
