Obituary

J. Herbert Galbraith, 87, one of the early pioneers and farmers of the Lyman area, died Thursday morning, July 1, 1971 following a year’s illness.

He was born April 4, 1884 in Lyman, the son of Ann Sharp and Edward A. Galbraith. His parents were one of the first four families in that area. He was the second boy born in the region. He lived in Lyman all his life and attended school in Lyman and also attended Ricks Academy in Rexburg.

He was married to Ida Mae Barber, Sept. 9, 1913 at St. Anthony, Idaho; this marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Jan. 12, 1916.

He was a member of the LDS Church and was a high priest at the time of his death. He had served in the Sunday School and the Mutual Improvement Organization. As a boy, he herded sheep but most of his life was spent in farming in the Lyman area. For three years during World War II he worked as a pipe fitter in the ship yards in Tacoma, Washington re-fitting ships for the war use.

He served as a trustee on the local school board and as a director of the canal company in the Lyman area. Herb and Ida celebrated their Golden wedding Anniversary in 1963, after which he retired from farming.

Survivors include his widow of Lyman and the following sons and daughters: LeRoy H. Galbraith, Tacoma, Wash.; Dorald J. Galbraith, Burley, Mrs. Perry (Mae) Geisler, Rigby; Mrs. Lloyd (Della) Merrill, Lorenzo; Clinton G. Galbraith, Lyman; Mrs. Thomas (LaRue) Trittipo, Burley; Garold R. Galbraith, Payson, Utah; 33 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Francis Galbraith, Lyman; Mrs. Martha Weeks, Archer; and Mrs. Pearl Johnson, Pocatello.

He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Harold Butler officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery in Archer under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.
