Ed was born on July 31, 1938 at Booth Hospital in Covington, Kentucky and passed away on September 7, 2023. Ed was the son of Edward Charles Bader and Helen Caldwell Bader. Ed grew up with his sister, Cynthia Bader, in South Fort Mitchell Kentucky. He attended Beachwood High School where he played multiple sports, especially basketball. Ed received a BS in Chemistry and Biology at Eastern Kentucky University in 1960. The draft board got in the way of graduate school, so he joined the US Army Reserve 6 year program, and received an Honorable Discharge on June 30, 1966. In 1961, Ed traveled to California for the adventure of a lifetime and never looked back. He visited a friend working in Hanford, CA. Ed got employment at the Hanford Clinical Laboratory and after 2 years became a Certified Medical Technologist. In 1964, he moved to San Francisco to work at a large Hospital and met his first wife, Marian Elaine Lloyd who was a Registered Nurse. Ed and Marian were married in San Francisco on August 7, 1965 and relocated to Danville, CA where they raised two children, David Edward Bader and Nicole Elizabeth Granquist. We also were blessed with three grandchildren, Jackson, Stella, and Spencer. In 1969, after additional study, Ed became a Board Certified Clinical Chemist and eventually went to work for the Veterans Administration. During the next 33 plus years, he devoted most of his career traveling to various VA Medical Centers helping them computerize their clinical laboratories and working with other VA programmers to develop the Decentralized Hospital Computer Program, now called (VISTA), and still in use at all VA Medical Centers. After retirement and our children had advanced degrees, Marian and Ed were free to travel. They had a great time traveling with friends to many parts of the world. Marian passed away in January 2015. Ed left Danville and moved to the Del Webb in Lincoln CA to be near his daughter and her family. In January 2016, he met Joanne Karas at a singles Super Bowl party. We had a great time together and I was invited to attend her Church the next week. It was the start of a magical relationship for us to enjoy the Lincoln Community Church, travel and experience the Del Webb community together. We were married on November 2017. Joanne was beautiful with a smile, personality, and innocence to go with her beauty. She passed away in January of 2023. Direct Cremation of Ed will be performed by the Cochrane & Wagemann Funeral Home in Roseville, CA. Burial is through the Lakeview Funeral Home, 205 Albion Ave, Fairmont, MN. Ed will be buried with his first wife, Marian.
