1734 - (Union,CT) - First inhabited by Nipmucks (a local Native American tribe), and later, in 1727, settled by Presbyterians from Massachusetts, the town was incorporated in October of 1734 and includes the village of Mashapaug.

1819 - Union
Union, an elevated interior township, is situated 33 miles northeasterly from Hartford, and 67 from New-Haven. It is bounded on the north by Massachusetts line, on the east by Woodstock, on the south by Ashford and Willington, and on the west by Stafford. Its extent, from east to west, is between 5 and 6 miles, and from north to south about the same; containing nearly 30 square miles, or about 19,000 acres.

The surface is broken, being hilly and rocky. Its geological structure consists of granite, micaceous schistus, and other primitive rocks, being a part of the granitic region composing the elevated tract in the eastern part of the State. Iron ore has been found in considerable quantities, but the mineralogy of the town has not been explored by the skilfulness of art, or with the judgement of scientific knowledge.

Tolland county. The surface of Union is hilly, with a hard and unproductive soil. Mashapaug and Breakneck ponds, lying in this town, are the principal sources of Quinnebaug river. A branch of the Natchaug also rises here.

The town was incorporated in 1734. First settled, 1727. It is bounded W. by Stafford and is 33 miles N.E. from Hartford, and 14 N.E. from Tolland. Population, 1830, 711.

1931 - Mayor's Stepson Killed When Roadster Overturns On Curve At Union, Conn.
Ulric E. Duval, 33-year-old motion picture operator of Worcester and step-son of Mayor Joseph N. Carriere, was killed in an automobile accident at Union, Conn., yesterday afternoon when his roadster overturned, presumably after a front tire had blown out.

Mr. Duval was pinned beneath the machine and his spine was fractured.
There were no witnesses of the accident.

Investigations made after the discovery of the wreck led to the belief that it was caused by the blowout on a curve.

Mr. Duval was the son of Mrs. Carriere and he was a frequent visitor at the home of the mayor. He had many friends and acquaintances in this city who were shocked to hear of his death.

Mr. Duval was a native of Worcester, the son of Edmund and Josephine (Moge) Duval. He was educated at Notre Dame parochial school, High School of Commerce and Assumption college.
