The original Seminary was located at 352 Collins Street in Hartford, in what was once the Chinese College. It opened its doors on September 7, 1897. Bishop Tierney appointed the Right Reverend John Synnott as the first President of St. Thomas.[2] Due to the increasing enrollment, and limited space, it became necessary to find a larger space.
