The history of the First Baptist Church can be traced back to April 1786 when a small congregation began meeting at the home of Revolutionary war Captain Elijah Hunter. The congregation was incorporated as a New York State American Baptist Church in 1790.
The present Victorian Stick-Gothic church building was dedicated on June 13, 1874, and was the second building to stand on this site located in the center of the village triangle. The cost was $75.000. The land was given to the congregation by Elijah Hunter, one of the founders of the church and the village of Ossining . The architect was J. Walsh of Brooklyn, NY. and the contactor was John Hoff of Ossining...
