James was born in his grandfathers long cabin in Clifton maine 1932. He joined the navy in 1950 and served on the USS Putnam DD 757, was released in 1954. He then served in the Army for two years. Was on the base where the film to hell and back was made. His brother Jesse served with him (Navy and Army). James married Thelma J. Wilbur from Old Town Maine. They had four children together. He was the oldest of nine children (Marie, Gloria, Linda, Shirley, LOuis, Jesse, and Fred). He died in 1984.

Died at the Easter maine medical center in Bangor Maine 1984
