Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Gustavia Cheramie Plaisance, 72, a native of Westwego and resident of Cut Off, died at 8:58 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007.A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.She is survived by five sons, Augustin Plaisance Jr., Johnny Plaisance, Ronald Plaisance, Donald Plaisance and Arnold Plaisance; one daughter, Arlene Guidry; one sister, Rosita 'Rose' LePine; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustin Philip Plaisance Sr.; her parents, Lester Joseph Sr. and Emma Hodge Cheramie; four brothers, Lester Jr., Jackolyn, Curtis and Aujest Cheramie; and four sisters, Marie Falgout, Lordia Falgout, Ella Guidry and Serita Comardelle.

She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.Samart-Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
