Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Deceased Name: Marie Louise "Adrienne" Chauvin
Marie Louise "Adrienne" Chauvin, 88, of 56 Tyler St., Nashua, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson.

Miss Chauvin was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Webster, Mass., daughter of the late Hyacinthe and Emma (Michaud) Chauvin. She lived in Nashua most of her life.

She worked at the former Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department for three years, retiring in 1973. She previously had worked at J.F. McElwain Shoe Co. in Nashua.

Miss Chauvin enjoyed cooking, helping those in need and spending time with the children in her family.

She was a communicant of Infant Jesus Church.

Miss Chauvin attended St. Francis Xavier School and public schools in Nashua.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Napoleon "Sammy," Albert and Peter Chauvin and three sisters, Emma Chauvin, Mary Rose Boyer and Rose Provost.
