1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved over 156,000 troops from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations. The operation aimed to liberate Western Europe from Nazi German control. The landings marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, leading to the eventual Allied victory in Europe.

1945 - The atomic bomb is invented (J. Robert Oppenheimer, et al., United States)

The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Gizynski, Dr. Waldemar E. 'Wally' His Legacy....Gizynski, Dr. Waldemar E 'Wally', age 90 of Jackson, MI died Saturday, November 8, 2014. He was born August 26, 1924 in Detroit MI, to Walter and Helena (Malinoska) Gizynski. On June 11, 1949 he married Martha Noble in Malden, Mass and she survives. He served in the United States Navy as a Doctor. Wally was a member of the Senior group at Our Lady of Fatima in Michigan Center. His Family.... In addition to Martha, his wife of 65 years, Wally will be remembered by his daughters: Beth Brooks of Northville, MI and Susan Dixon of Hudson, FL; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. His Farewell... A Natural Farewell has taken place. A mass will be offered at Our Lady of Fatima in Michigan Center, MI on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Tim MacDonald as Celebrant. A gathering will be from 10 A.M. until the Mass. In Wally's honor, memorial donations may be shared
