The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

The crisis is considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.

In 1963, on November 22, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. Johnson was sworn in as the 36th President of the United States shortly after Kennedy's death. The assassination sparked numerous conspiracy theories and investigations, with the Warren Commission ultimately concluding that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination. DUDLEY – Stephen F. Plaza, Sr., 96, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of almost 70 years, Jayne O. (Korch) Plaza; 3 children, Bette J. Plaza of St. Albans , ME, Joseph E. Plaza and his wife Marietta of Hampton, NH, and Shirley A. Wagner and her husband David of Epsom, NH; a sister, Helen Burt of Webster; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen F. Plaza, Jr. in 2003, by 3 brothers, Stanley, Frank and John Plaza, and by 4 sisters, Mary Dyson, Anna Barrette, Catherine Lindburg and Stella Pelletier.

He was born in Webster, the youngest of the 9 children of Joseph and Margaret (Duszlak) Plaza, and lived in Dudley all his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Plaza owned and operated Webster Machine Products, Inc. for over 30 years before retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church. He served as the first
