The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. SOUTHBRIDGE - Rubia C. 'Ruby' (Pinsonneault) Durocher, 70, of 103 Pine St. died yesterday at her home after being stricken ill.
She leaves her husband of 47 years, Gerard Durocher; two sons, John G. Durocher of Dudley and Jacques R. Durocher of Dracut; a
Sister: , Lillia Renaud; a
Brother: , Laurier Pinsonneault, both of Southbridge; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Joanne Durocher Guillet of Dudley, died in 1986. She was born in Southbridge, daughter of Joseph and Eva (Theriault) Pinsonneault.
Mrs. Durocher was a keypunch operator at Hyde Manufacturing before her retirement. She previously worked at American Optical Co.
She was a member of Notre Dame Church, where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality and the Bingo Workers. She was a member of Harrington Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Dr. Van's Cardiac Group and Southbridge Women's Club.
The funeral will be held
