Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Robert H. Beeman, Sr.

Morrisville-Robert H. Beeman, 78, passed away peacefully at The Manor in Morrisville March 6, 2018. He was born November 4, 1939 in Morrisville, the son of Clarence Heman and Alice Lou Ayer Beeman. He married Ruby Hodgdon on June 30, 1962 at the 2nd Congregational Church in Hyde Park with Rev. John Nutting officiating. He served in the Army National Guard.

He was a 1957 graduate of Peoples Academy where he was a tremendous athlete playing soccer, basketball, baseball and was on the gymnastics team. He was a member of the high school varsity soccer team beginning when he was in the 7th grade. Following high school Bob attended and graduated from Champlain College.

Bob began working for the Burlington Free Press at age 8 and continued working through college managing the paperboys. He later worked for the Mountain Company as an accountant. Bob was the chief tax auditor for the State of Vermont for several years and later was an income tax preparer. He was...Read MORE...
