John Wayne, born Marion Robert Morrison on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa, was an American actor and filmmaker who became an iconic figure in the world of Western films. His career spanned over five decades, and he became one of the most recognizable and enduring personalities in the history of American cinema.

Wayne's family moved to Glendale, California, when he was a child. He played football at Glendale High School but an injury ended his sports aspirations. Wayne then attended the University of Southern California, where he began working at the film studio while taking on bit parts in silent movies. It was during this time that he adopted the screen name 'John Wayne.'

His big break came with the film 'The Big Trail' in 1930, a widescreen epic that showcased his rugged charisma. However, the film wasn't a commercial success, and Wayne struggled to find steady work for several years. It wasn't until the mid-1930s that he started gaining recognition in a series of
