Neil Armstrong, a name forever etched in the annals of history, was an American astronaut and the first person to set foot on the Moon. Born on August 5, 1930, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, Armstrong's journey to the stars began with humble roots.
Growing up in the midst of the Great Depression, Armstrong's fascination with flight and space was sparked at an early age. His love for aviation took flight when, at the age of six, he experienced his first airplane ride with his father. It began when American spy planes discovered the missiles, leading to a U.S. naval blockade of Cuba and intense negotiations. The crisis ended when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles in exchange for the U.S. promising not to invade Cuba and secretly agreeing to remove American missiles from Turkey.
