Rosa Parks was a pivotal figure in the American Civil Rights Movement, best known for her courageous act of defiance that played a significant role in the dismantling of racial segregation. Born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama, as Rosa Louise McCauley, she grew up in a racially segregated and economically challenging environment.
Parks' early experiences with racism and inequality shaped her commitment to social justice. She attended a segregated school, where the facilities and resources were inferior compared to those available to white students. Despite these obstacles, she excelled in her studies, but her family faced financial struggles.
In 1932, Rosa married Raymond Parks, a barber and active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Raymond introduced Rosa to influential activists, including E.D. Nixon, who played a crucial role in the early stages of the Civil Rights Movement.
