1944 - D-Day, which occurred on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal World War II operation where Allied forces launched a massive invasion on the beaches of Normandy, France. The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Southbridge: Helene C. (Slosek) Seremet, 98, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19th, in the Southbridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, after a long illness.

Her husband of 43 years, Joseph R. Seremet, died in 1983. Helene and Joseph were married in 1940 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard. She leaves a son, Joseph H. Seremet and his wife Nancy of TX; two daughters, Virginia Loin and her husband Frank of NY and Celeste A. Weberg and her husband Daniel of NH; six grandchildren, Melissa Campbell, Michelle Blackburn, Michael Loin, Patrick Seremet and Daniel Weberg; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Kevin Seremet; her two
Sister: s, and three
Brother: s. She was born in Springfield the daughter of the late John and Mary (Novak) Slosek.

Helene was and active member of St. Hedwig's Church in Southbridge and VFW Post 6055 Ladies Auxiliary in Southbridge.
