Chagnon, Pierre (1761-1824). Concessionnaire original des terres #3 et #4 sur la seigneurie de Rouville reçue du seigneur René-Ovide Hertel de Rouville en 1783. Aussi d'une terre sur la rivière Hurons de la seigneurie de Rouville reçue du même seigneur en 1787, ces trois terres par l'entremise de son procureur François-Xavier Noiseux curé à Belœil. À Belœil en 1784 et cultivateur à Saint-Hilaire en 1798.
- Né à Saint-Charles-sur-Richelieu.
- Fils de Pierre Chagnon et de Marie-Angélique Lussier.
- Il a épousé Charlotte Desranleau à Belœil en 1784. (Contrat Charles-Étienne Letestu).
- Père (premier lit) de Catherine (1785), François-Amable (1786), Marie-Louise (1788), Barbe (1789), François (1789), Pierre (1791), Marie-Esther (1792), Charlotte (1795), Marie-Séraphine (1797), Joseph (1798), François-Cléophas (1800), Marie-Ravaise (1802), Marie-Narcisse (1802), Cléophas (1803) et Louise.
- Décédé à Saint-Hyacinthe (Saint-Hyacinthe), service à l'église Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire et inhumé dans le cimetière paroissial.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
