Helene's mother passed when she was an infant. In 1666, her father died of smallpox.

She had one elder sister, Catherine. In 1666, Hélène left her home in France to accompany her sister, a filles a marier, to New France. Catherine became ill and died before reaching New France.

Hélène decided to become a filles à marier, shortly after reaching Québec in September.

On August 18, 1667, Helene married Jean Aubry. They were married on her fifteenth birthday.
