BERTRAND – Comes from the Germanic name Berhthramn, of which the term “berht” means brilliant, or illustrious, and the term “hramn” means raven.
Jean Bertrand was born around 1667 in La Ferrière-Airoux in Poitou. Son of Simon Bertrand and Françoise Aymes-Aimée, he married Marie-Charlotte Brard, daughter of Jean Brard and Charlotte Coy, on September 23, 1697 in Montreal. From their union were born 10 children. He settled on the Côte Saint-Pierre in 1700. Then moved to the Côte Saint-Laurent. He died there on October 28, 1718.
