Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Marjorie B. Allison, 88, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Harold Walker Allison, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Kindred Care in Windsor. Born in New York, NY to the late Andrew and Margaret (Van Wagner) Büeter, she was raised in Rhinebeck, NY and has been a Windsor resident for over 58 years. She was a member of the Poquonock Community Church and their Golden Fellowship group, Windsor Junior Women's Club, Poquonock Ladies Auxiliary Fire Company, was active in the Poquonock Elementary School PTO, served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and was a member of AARP. Marjorie enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, making beautiful braided rugs, gardening and creating arts and crafts, in her spare time, but her true passion was her family who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey J. Allison and his wife Jeanine of East Hampton, and Scott S. Allison of Windsor; her daughter Linn A.
