The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. WEBSTER – Alberic Bernard Chauvin, 91, of Beacon Park, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at home with his family at his side.
He leaves his wife of almost 64 years, Rhea T. (Gelineau) Chauvin; 4 children, Georgiana L. Przybylek and her husband Francis of Hiram, GA, Bernard W. Chauvin and his wife Nancy of Dudley, Philip P. Chauvin and his wife Diana of Webster, and Theresa A. Martin and her husband Brian of Candia, NH; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
He was born in North Grosvenordale, CT, the youngest of the 8 children of Alberic and Anna (Gauthier) Chauvin. He was raised in Webster and lived in Dudley from 1970 to 2000, when he moved back to Webster.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Mr. Chauvin was first a self-employed garage owner and then a mechanic at Jolly’s Esso on East Main Street. He was a machinist at Command Aircraft in Moosup, CT retiring in 1982. In his retirement, he was a school bus
